Hollywood's stars came in delicate dresses in red and crimson, gowns fitted at the waist with elaborate sequined embroidery and retro hair styles reminiscent of the 1960s. Yesterday, the elite of the movie world showed all its customary glory at the 83rd Academy Awards, which took place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. For your pleasure we have added 'Best Hair Styles' as our own Oscar category
The cross-eyed possum Heidi got it right, Colin Firth won the Oscar for best male leading actor for his great accomplishment starring as the stuttering English King George VI in the movie 'The King’s Speech'. As many expected, Natalie Portman won the coveted statue for her leading role in the psych thriller 'Black Swan'. Her empire style outfit in royal crimson matched the royal theme. Her crimson empire-style dress was very delicate and at the same time provided room for baby. In style was also her smooth shiny hair with soft curls flowing sideways over her shoulders.
Portman's peers Sandra Bullock and Gwenyth Paltrow revelled in pure elegance. Both had their hair pinned up in a plain and beautiful style and they both left the sparkling to their fiery red figure-fitted dresses. Like many others, Reese Witherspoon, Sharon Stone and Nicole Kidman wore their hair in the glamorous style of the 1960s. They walked the red carpet with their teased hair styled into a banana chignon in the back of the head or into a high ponytail, respectively. Of course, there were also the proponents of the newest styles like Cate Blanchett and Helen Mirren. They both demonstrated the elegance of short haircuts.
